What to expect

The Contemporary Museum recently gifted its collection and assets to the Honolulu Academy of Arts, merging the two museums and forming a new world-class art museum known as the Honolulu Museum of Art. One of the world’s premier art museums, it houses a recognized collection of more than 50,000 works spanning 5,000 years, including van Gogh, Picasso, Warhol, Monet, Gauguin and Hokusai, as well as traditional Hawaiian and Asian art.

Things to look out for

At the Honolulu Museum of Art, you will feel transported to different places and times as you stroll through the museum’s more than 30 galleries, surrounded by exotic sculptures and gardens with waterfalls, a 70-year old monkey pod tree and the Japanese garden’s lily pad pond.

Helpful Tips

Now a single admission price allows you entry into both the Honolulu Museum of Art and the Spalding House (formerly The Contemporary Museum). Admission to both museums must be on the same day.
