What to expect

Take a break from the beach or find refuge on a rainy day and learn about the natural and cultural history of these stunning islands. Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum is not only the largest museum in the state, but it is recognised globally for its impressive collections, projects and for the tours and programs they run year-round.
Explore everything from plant and animal life to cultural history. For the little ones, head to the interactive areas, where they can crawl through lava tubes as they learn about volcanoes and see real lava pour out of a 2000-degree furnace!

Things to look out for

Take a look at the website before you head out so that you can plan ahead and avoiding missing something exciting! The Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum has over 24 million historical, cultural and natural treasures, as well as a variety of unique exhibitions waiting to be explored. You may want to take the “Treasures of the Past” guided tour which leaves at 10am, 11am, 1pm and 3pm. This tour comes included with your general admission ticket and teaches you about the culture and history of Hawaii and the Pacific.

Helpful Tips

Make sure you pack a mobile device and some headphones if you want to make the most of the free mobile audio tours. These can be streamed easily from the Museum website in English, Japanese, Chinese and Korean.
The Bishop Museum Café is a great place to stop by afterwards for a refreshment. If you aren’t hungry, you can also check out Shop Pacifica where you can purchase beautiful cultural keepsakes and merchandise to help remember your trip.
