What to expect

Enjoy a unique performance and see traditional dances from all over Greece. At Dora Stratou Traditional Dance Theatre, a company of 75 dancers, musicians and singers will perform dances from many regions of Greece, villages and islands. Admire authentic dances, costumes, musical instruments and songs. The dances, songs and music are presented in their original forms that were or are still performed in the respective villages or islands.

Things to look out for

The national Greek Dances Theatre 'Dora Stratou' is unique in its kind in the world. Costumes are authentic museum pieces, handmade in villages a century ago: 2000 costumes from all over Greece, complete with jewellery and accessories.

The program changes every second Wednesday and in total lasts around 90 minutes without intermission.

Helpful Tips

The garden theatre is situated opposite the Acropolis entrance, on the far side of Philopappou Hill. You can get to the following entrances through these routes:

Parking entrance
By metro: Get off at the Acropolis or Fix (Line 2) stations.
By subway: Through the Petralona station (Line 1)
By bus: Through Trolley bus 15, Philopappou stop, or bus line 230 Zografou-Acropolis, terminal at Acropolis.

St. Dimitrios Loumbardiaris pedestrian street entrance, opposite Acropolis
By metro: Take Line 2 to Acropolis station. From Plaka, the old town of Athens, take the pedestrian street towards St. Dimitrios Loumbardiaris, opposite the entrance of the Acropolis.
By car: Drive around Philopappou Hill, starting at the "Dionysos" restaurant opposite the Acropolis.

They also have dance classes in English for individuals or groups in their school, and they also have other educational and cultural events throughout the year. Copies of folk costumes can be made to order or rented. Visit their website here for more details.
