What to expect

The Sydney Opera House is not only the most well-known building in Australia, but it is also one of the world's great performing arts centres. Venture inside on a guided tour and learn about the extraordinary history, incredible architecture and behind the scenes work. You’ll get to run your hands over the famous shell tiles, sit in the elegant theatre chairs and marvel at the art of the vaulted ceilings. Visit areas that the public doesn’t get to see and enjoy rare photo opportunities. If you are lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of a rehearsal, a set being built or feel the vibrations of instruments during a soundcheck.

Things to look out for

Satisfy your hunger at one of the many restaurants and bars here at the Opera House. The restaurants offer everything from casual snacks to award-winning fine dining.

Make a day of it by relaxing at the Opera Bar after your tour. Sit back and relax with food, drinks, live music and a view of the Sydney Harbour Bridge or even see a show afterwards!

There are plenty of photo opportunities throughout the entire tour. Your tour guide will advise you during the tour if photographs are not permitted in any specific areas.

Helpful Tips

Please arrive 15 minutes before your tour to allow enough time to check larger bags into the cloak room. Casual dress is acceptable for tours, however, it is recommended to wear comfortable shoes as you will be walking up a lot of stairs.

It is the goal of the Opera House to make the experiences offered accessible to all people. A range of services are provided for people with a disability. A public lift operates from the Lower, Ground and Upper Levels and there are wheelchair accessible entrances. Service Animals are welcome inside of the venues. Please let the staff know your needs before the tour so that the guide is aware.

You can catch public transport (bus, train, ferry) to Circular Quay and enjoy a 6-minute walk to the Opera House. Parking is also available in Wilson’s Car Park. For timetable information, you’ll want to visit Transport NSW.
