What to expect

Take a tranquil moment away from the excitement of Darling Harbour in the Chinese Garden of Friendship Sydney. Take a walk along the winding pathways of ancient China, past towering pavilions, cascading waterfalls and tranquil lakes. The traditional Teahouse overlooking the Sydney Chinese garden is a perfect place to relax and enjoy a refreshment. The best part is that you can stroll through the gardens at your own leisure and take as long as you’d like.

The Chinese Garden of Friendship was built by Chinese landscape architects as a beautiful symbol of friendship between Sydney and Guangzhou in the province of Guangdong, China (sister cities of sister states), to mark Australia’s bicentenary in 1988. It follows the Taoist principles of 'Yin-Yang' and the five opposite elements—earth, fire, water, metal and wood.

Things to look out for

The Chinese Garden of Friendship Sydney is a great place to visit most days, with the teahouse offering a cosy place to shelter from the rain.

Pathways and pavilions in the lower garden are accessible for wheelchairs and prams; however steps and rocky pathways make the upper part of the garden difficult to access. The closest passenger drop-off point to the garden is on Harbour Street. The Chinese Garden in Sydney has a fully upgraded accessible toilet and baby change facilities on site.
