What to expect
The Paley Center leads the discussion about the cultural, creative, and social significance of television, radio, and emerging platforms for the professional community and media-interested public. The Paley Center examines the intersections between media and society. They host many exhibits from different television shows, where they highlight the most notable costumes, and show props. Some of their past exhibits were Cartoon Network (multiple shows on display), American Horror Story, and The Mindy Project.
Things to look out for
You can access an international collection of over 160,000 programs covering almost 100 years of television and radio history, including news, public affairs programs and documentaries, performing arts programs, children's programming, sports, comedy and variety shows, and commercial advertising. Programming from some seventy countries is represented in the collection. Throughout the year they offer numerous public programs that bring together writers, directors, producers, actors, critics, journalists, and artists from today’s most popular and acclaimed television shows to discuss everything from the creative process behind television and radio to the current trends in media and popular culture, to global political situations.
Helpful Tips
You can take the Metro Rapid Line 704 to Santa Monica Blvd. and Canon Dr. It’s only a 3 minute walk to the Paley Center, south on Beverly Drive. Metro Rapid Line 720 and Metro Local Line 20 run along Wilshire Blvd., three blocks south of Santa Monica Blvd., and stops at N Beverly Drive. Plan your trip on metro.net. Public parking structures on the same side of the street first two hours free, and lookout for parking signage to avoid tickets. Saturdays is the busiest days; most people spend 2.5 hours there. The Paley Center has no lunchroom facilities and eating, or drinking is allowed on the premises. But there are a bunch of great restaurants in the vicinity. Recording and photography are not permitted.
