Description
Rent a classic backdraft racing Cobra and experience Cape Town from a whole new perspective. With this half-day rental, you can take in the stunning scenery of the Cape peninsula while hearing the vintage engine roar. Choose your own itinerary and explore the windy coastal roads from Camps Bay to Llandudno Beach, or cruise to the winelands and visit Stellenbosch and Paarl. Between July and November, a drive to Hermanus to see the Southern Right Whales is a must-do. The Cobra is a race car from a bygone era, where racing wasn’t managed by computer chips and technology. The Cobra was first introduced in 1962 by famous race car driver and entrepreneur, Carroll Shelby. Shelby took the body of the light, nimble British AC Ace model roadster and powered it with Ford’s 260 engine, and later with a venerable 289 V8. The combination of lightweight body, small dimensions and brute power proved to be revolutionary. The car did extremely well in competition all over the world, but Shelby’s ambition did not end there. In 1964, Shelby started working on an even more extreme version – the Shelby Cobra 427 – which was powered by a 427 V8 engine. The Cobra 427 was astonishingly fast, resulting in many crashes as drivers weren’t used to the speed. Over 50 years since its introduction, the Cobra remains one of the most desirable classic cars.
