What to expect

During a visit to the Academy Museum, guests can explore four floors of exhibition space and access one of the best views of the Hollywood Hills in Los Angeles from the Dolby Family Terrace.

The first three floors of the museum feature the exhibition Stories of Cinema which presents the diverse, international, and complex stories of moviemakers and the works they create. Level 4 currently features the museum’s special exhibition Regeneration: Black Cinema 1898–1971 which explores the rich history of Black participation in American cinema from its beginnings to just beyond the civil rights movement.

Guests may also have the opportunity to enjoy a film in either of the museum’s two state-of-the-art theaters; screenings run almost daily. *Galleries and public spaces in the museum may periodically be closed for maintenance, refurbishment, or private events. For the latest information, please visit academymuseum.org.

Things to look out for

Make sure to visit the special exhibitions space on Level 4. This is the museum’s temporary exhibition space where Regeneration: Black Cinema 1898–1971 is currently on view through Spring 2023. Visitors are also encouraged to stop by the Academy Museum Store to shop unique and exclusive film-inspired merchandise curated to align with museum exhibitions and programs. There’s something for film lovers of all ages.
