Lei Day
In 1928 a poet suggested that a holiday be created around the Hawaiian costume of making and wearing a lei (crowns of flowers). Later, Grace Tower Warren said “May day is Lei Day” and that date became the official day. Everyone in Honolulu is encouraged to wear a Lei.
