Things to look out for

Taronga Zoo is very popular with tourists during peak season such as summer and school holidays. If you prefer less crowds, visit later in the day or avoid the peak periods.

The easiest way to get here as well as the most scenic way to get here is by taking the ferry from Circular Quay. The zoo is located just 12 minutes away from the wharf and ferries depart every 30 minutes. If you have redeemed the Captain Cook Hop On Hop Off Cruise, Taronga Zoo is one of the stops. You can also come here by bus or car. For timetable information, you’ll want to visit: https://transportnsw.info.

Taronga Zoo offers a plenty of facilities such as free Wi-fi, ATM, First Aid, lockers, parents room, picnic areas, stroller hire, water fountains and café/eateries throughout the zoo. If you have special dietary needs, you might want to bring you own lunch or snacks just in case the café can’t accommodate you.

The free Taronga Zoo app is available for download with free Wi-Fi so you can easily browse the interactive map, get updates on Sky Safari, animal talks, shows and encounter, discover kid’s Wild Squad Missions and more!

Helpful Tips

Taronga Zoo is very accessible to everyone. A lift is available to transport guests with disabilities from wharf/street level to the Sky Safari terminal. Sky Safari is also accessible to people with disabilities. Wheelchairs are available for hire from the ‘Animal Encounters’ store. Unfortunately, due to strict quarantine regulations, Taronga Zoo cannot admit guide dogs, hearing assistance dogs and other assistance animals. Carers or essential companions of those with disabilities are offered free entry and the zoo accepts the national Companion Card.

Don’t forget your camera! There are incredible views of the harbour as these animals are living on prime real estate. Do not miss the bird show! It is highly recommended!
