What to expect
The National Anzac Centre experience provides a place for visitors to learn and reflect on the service and sacrifice of Australian and New Zealand men and women during the First World War. The use of technology and multimedia truly enhances the experience and allows visitors to connect on a deeply personal and often emotional level. The Park surrounding the National Anzac Centre offers the ultimate blend of natural, cultural, historical and adventure based experiences including historic cultural sites, nature based walking and mountain bike trails, wildflowers, whale watching as well as shopping and dining. You can explore the park by car, bike or foot to discover Albany's number one attraction. Join a free guided tour of the Princess Royal Fortress with one of our volunteers or wander the heritage listed Fortress buildings to enjoy the various displays and exhibits at your leisure. The Forts Store is located in what was once the Military Institue at the Princess Royal Fortress and is open daily. The Forts Store boasts great value giftware, memorabilia, military themed toys and the best collection of military fiction and non fiction books you'll find in WA.
Things to look out for
An experience that caters for many ages and interest levels. It is typically recommmended guests allow at least one hour when visiting the National Anzac Centre, although many spend several or the whole day! Tickets are valid the entire day of purchase. Spend a couple of hours exploring the Historic Princess Royal Fortress, bring a picnic lunch or bbq in our undercover bbq area, then visit the naval guns, walk the trails and visit the lookouts for amazing vantage points out across Princess Royal Harbour, King George Sound and beyond. Access to the Albany Heritage Park and Princess Royal Fortress is free.
Helpful Tips
Doors open at 9am, with last ticket sales concluding at 4pm and the National Anzac Centre closing at 5pm, every day of the year except Christmas Day. The Princess Royal Fortress and Forts Store are currently open 9am-4pm daily (except Christmas Day). If attending a guided tour of the Princess Royal Fortress history with our volunteers, a hat or raincoat (depending on time of year) and appropriate footwear are recommended.
